A Comparative Study on Selman¢¥s and Newberger¢¥s theories

Abstract
Selman provided a scheme of personal and interpersonal cognition and strengthened the link between theories of Piaget and Kohlberg. Newberger, strongly, influneced by Selman¢¥s perspective, taking theory, produced a parental awareness theory and a measure based on structural-developmental concepts. And this study compared Selman¢¥s with Newberger¢¥s as to the theoretical frame, developmental stages, mechanisms of development,., methods of measures, the relationship between awareness. and action, and intervention. Increase in the understanding of oneself and others in social interactions is basic to moral development. It is also basic to the development of parental concepts about children, parent-child relationships, and parental roles.
